East Bay/San Francisco

Mission
To provide local professional development, peer support, advocacy, and resource-sharing opportunities to school social workers in the East Bay Region within the California Association of School Social Workers.

History
East Bay CASSW Regional began to develop a local presence during the Annual CASSW Conference held in Oakland, CA in the fall of 2008, when local school social workers organized the event. Small and infrequent gatherings continued and in the 2010-2011 school year, regular meetings were established with opportunities for ongoing professional development, peer support, and future planning.

Area & Meetings
BASSW (Bay Area School Social Workers) covers the north bay region, including the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Rosa, Solano, and Sonoma.

We meet for social and educational gatherings often in the East Bay, but San Francisco meetings also occur. Please join the BASSW listserv for details or visit our calendar.

A survey was conducted in the fall of 2011 to determine areas of interest and meeting topics. As a result the following topics either have been or will be addressed at upcoming meetings: Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Restorative Justice, Mindfulness, Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma in the Classroom.
